Two New to Me Board Game Content Creators Worth Following

Grant Lyon from Grant's Game Recs and Blaze Aldrich from Elevated Board Games are two board game content creators worth your time.

There’s no shortage of content creators in the board game space, with many big and well established names and brands to choose from. I enjoy the big names as much as anyone else, but lately I’ve also been enjoying several lesser known (to me at least) content creators. I wanted to call out two here, Grant Lyon and Blaze Aldrich.

Grant Lyon is a stand-up comedian and content creator behind Grant’s Game Recs. Grant is also a published designer, with I’m Kind of a Big Dill and Curmudgeon under his belt. Grant brings a wry humor to his content, and I really enjoy his delivery. He posts regular monthly vidoes of new games and expansions hitting retail, which I find particularly valuable, as well as a variety of other content.

Grant is currently on tour with a board game focused stand-up comedy show, which is how I came across him originally. I’ll be attending his show in St. Louis at Pieces Board Game Bar And Restaurant in October, and am really looking forward to it!

It’s not uncommon for board game content to come paired with humor, but the energy that Grant brings to his work really resonates with me, and may for you also.

Blaze Aldrich is the owner and creator of board game online store Elevated Board Games. His story is a very compelling one for me. He left a career as a product manager, and started his online store, originally focusing on sourcing and reselling out of print games. Since then the site has evolved to selling more traditional board game product.

Blaze has shared a lot of content about his journey through this process and I find that really fascinating. He’s also transparent about sharing the metrics of success for the venture. He is currently working up toward being able to open a physical storefront and move operations out of his personal home.

Some of the content I enjoy most are his best and worst selling games each month. It’s very interesting to get a picture into what’s moving in the market and what’s not, and his worst selling videos are pretty funny, and often come with discount opportunities. He also hosts a blog on the store website, covering some best of lists. One very cool thing Blaze does is pump his Facebook monetization into game giveaways for his customers.

If an insider view into board game retail sales sounds intriguing to you, Elevated Board Games is worth checking out. The online store itself has good deals available, and is worth checking out all on its own.
